AWLS The AWLS (Advanced Wilderness Life Support) certification began at the University of Utah School of Medicine in 1998. This certification will teach you the basic wilderness medicine skills necessary to diagnosis, treat, evacuate and prevent illnesses and injuries in the back country. This is the most important certification in wilderness medicine.

Backpacking and Medicine This is one of the most common of outdoor activities and is plagued with numerous medical issues and injuries. This certification teaches the diseases and injuries common to hiking, backpacking and trekking in the back country. Subjects include clothing, nutrition, water treatment, hydration, foot care, first aid kits, bites/stings, natural disasters, and navigation.
