Tour du Mount Blanc

Hike the TMB

The Tour du Mont Blanc (TMB) is one of the most famous treks in the world, circuiting the highest peak of Western Europe. Its landscape is some of the most awe-inspiring in Europe, with a stunning and diverse combination of glaciers, alpine meadows, snow-capped peaks, lakes, rivers, and waterfalls, which makes it hugely popular with tourists and hikers alike.

This three-week program will give students the opportunity to get to know some of the most beautiful spots in the Alps.  The program will have two weeks of lecture and practicum-based instruction in the mountain village of Chamonix and hiking in the Alps as well as the mountain valley across from Mt. Blanc, the highest mountain in Europe.

Students will become familiar with the most common backcountry problems associated with backcountry activities (hiking, biking, climbing) in wilderness settings. This program is designed to prepare undergraduate and graduate students with no formal medical training on how to prevent and treat injuries and medical problems that might occur in the back country where no medical help is available.

After the conclusion of the two-week program in Chamonix, students will embark on a 6-day, 55-mile hiking excursion around the base of Mont Blanc. Students will stay in scenic refuges and alpine hotels through France, Italy, and Switzerland. No tents required!

This is a physically intensive and capacity-limited experience. Students interested in the standard two week program in Chamonix should apply through the Wilderness Medicine in the Alps brochure.

This application is not intended for medical students. If you are interested in participating as a medical student, please email Dr. Richard Ingebretsen for more information
